Area of Application
Technical items and technical processes, such as machines, devices, tools etc; chemical products, for example synthetic granulate material, synthetic fertilizer or pharmaceuticals; manufacturing processes, microbiological processes and their use.
Requirements
The invention has to fit three elementary criteria: It has to be “new”, be based upon “inventive occupation” and be commercially usable.
Duration
The patent has a term of protection lasting at the most 20 years from the day of registration. For maintenance after the second year, an annual fee is required. In order to obtain a German patent it is necessary to pass through the obligatory process of an application for a patent.
